Sicklinghall CC Vs Amaranth CC

"Amaranth maul the 'Hall'"

On a very hot day and winning the toss Godders thought long and hard over what to do, taking into account the average age of his team was 65 he decided to bat first,

So, enter the openers Westy and George Barton. With them getting us off to a great start and George impressing with some fine off drives and a hook shot that went for 6. Eventually George was out for a very fine 38. With stone-wall Westerman still there, our guest player for the day entered the frey, the one and only P.J.WOOD  looking a bit ring rusty at the start. He eventually got things ticking over getting the score to over 100, but was out trying to move the score on. At this point stone-wall Westerman still there and Crooks senior joined him.

With all the dad's army watching in the shade keeping cool, things were ticking along quite nicely

Until Crooksy pulled a long hop down to deep square leg and was caught for a fine 26.

Godders soon came & went for 10 then came westerman senior to join his brother. Dave is the good looking one by the way,

They managed to take the score up to 193 for 5 with Dave getting out with 2 balls remaining,

We eventually finished 195 for 6 which was a fine effort.

Stone-wall westy batting right through the innings for a very fine knock of 15. Well in felt like that, he got 68 really,

We took the field after a fine tea, with the smell of sun block and ralgex which is not a very nice smell at all. Unfortunately, this did not put off the Amaranth batsmen as they raced to over 100 without losing a wicket, until Crooks senior bowled the opener. He finished a fine spell of bowling with 2 wickets, the only 2 wickets to go down may I stress,

George Barton capped a fine day with some good bowling but no wickets as the skipper dropped a dolly (sorry George)

We came away with no points but the O.A.P.s really enjoyed there day out,

P.S. 3 players went straight to A&E for pulled  muscles. & sun stroke

Sicklinghall CC Vs Green Hammerton CC

"Seconds all at sea in tropical storm"

Yet again the weather won the day in what was set up to be an enthrawling game. Green Hammerton just a couple of league places above Sicklinghall, & us with what was on paper one of the best teams put out this season. Tony once again lost the toss & Sicklinghall were put into bat. Westy & George opened the innings on a wicket which looked more like a wave machine than a batting track. After a good 1st over(another boring westy maiden)George faced the first ball of the second over. Down came the half track loosener and George spooned it straight to mid off and George walked with a Golden. Nikhil was next walking out to the middle but was also back in the hut very quickly missing a straight one in the 3rd over. The 4th over came and down went another wicket with Westy playing a simlar shot to George getting caught at mid on.At the start of the 5th over Sicklinghall 5 runs for 3 wickets with 'clueless' Claz and 'gaylord' Godders in. Serious consolidation was needed and at drinks at the end of the 22nd over the score had moved onto 25 for 3 (yes we can all be boring Westy).Godders was planning out the next 23 overs & said if we keep going we might reach 50 by the end of the innings. Unsurprisingly Claz soon went on 21 (21 more than the waster should have got after being dropped on 0) with the score on 42.Blackie was next in and next out but only after scoring a quick fire 16 and the score had now reached the mid eighties.Everybody else came & went including Godders eventually falling for a excellent 34. So it was left with Matt and Tony as the last pair, but as they were moving the score into the hundreds, the black cloud that had been moving closer by the second eventually dropped a months rain in the matter of seconds. An early tea was had with Sicklinghall on 116 for 9. A quick look at the wicket after tea & it was soon decided the best option was the pub.Another game lost to the weather and us fancying our chances of bowling them out & getting 6 points. Truthfully though, with the form that A.K.Palanivel has shown in recent weeks, there was more chance of the score being chased down in the first 4 overs.

Sicklinghall CC Vs Ledsham CC

"2nds shine as 1sts bogged down"

Sicklinghall's second team stole the limelight on saturday as the 1st's were called off yet again. On a very wet wicket Tony lost the toss & Sicklinghall were put into bat. Wes & George openened the innings against some very accurate bowling.George was the first to fall after 13 overs playing all round a straight one. Dan & Blackie came & went, which sent Claz in with the score on 53 for 3 (Of which Wes had about 15 as he thought he was playing a five day match). After getting dropped on 0 (like the useless tart he is and perhaps one of the reasons for his expulsion from the 1st X1) then went on to score a fluky 44, 35 of which came from the inside edge of the bat.Wes was out on 45 & hit his first ever 6 for Sicklinghall. Everybody else came & went very quickly & the innings closed on 123 all out. After a great birthday tea (Blackies 35th) Ledsham came out to bat hoping to soon get past the below par score that we had set. Indian Express Anand & Tony Barton opened and both soon had the Ledsham batsmen going back to the pavilion with there tails between their legs. The Indian Express bowling up to his nickname with some great pace and an even better line taking 6 wickets for 9 runs off 10 overs. It would have been 7 wickets but Anands very loud appeal for a lbw was turned down (Anand read the rule book and discovered, much to his disgust, that a batsman cannot be out if he hits the ball. What an Idiot!!).Tony backed up Anand with another good haul taking 3 for 24 of 10 overs.Ledsham all out for 35. So back to the Scots the 2nd's went with 6 points in the bag & revenge for the 100 run beating they took in the first half of the season.
